Carlsberg and Heineken will buy fellow brewer Scottish & Newcastle for $15.3 billion, the companies said Friday. Scottish & Newcastle, which rejected two earlier bids, agreed to an all-cash offer of $15.68 per share. The offer values the market capital of the brewer at $14.9 billion. The price is a premium of 50.7 percent over Scottish & Newcastle's closing share price on March 28, the day before speculation arose about a possible takeover bid. If the deal goes through, Copenhagen-based Carlsberg will gain sole ownership of Baltic Beverages and Scottish & Newcastle's French, Greek and Chinese operations. Amsterdam-based Heineken NV would take control of its British, American, Indian and other markets. Faster growth South Korea's economic growth accelerated in the fourth quarter on strength in exports and manufacturing, the Bank of Korea said Friday, with economists expressing optimism that the country can weather a possible global slowdown.
Delhi-Gurgaon expressway opened for traffic
NEW DELHI: More than three weeks after its formal date of completion, the Rs 1,000 crore 27 km-long Delhi-Gurgaon expressway was on Wednesday opened to public. The expressway, inaugurated by the Union Minister for road transport and highways TR Baalu along with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is expected to cut short the travelling time between Gurgaon and Dhaula Kuan by at least an hour. But vehicle-users have to pay a toll for travelling through the stretch, which would be collected at three toll plazas located in Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi-Gurgaon border and 42nd milestone. "We have received the official clearance from the consulting body RITES for collecting toll, and the process will start soon," Chairman, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), N Gokulram said.
